Terri’s Take: Sailing in Style with Infinite Views
Not even a Brisbane summer storm could stop me from boarding Celebrity Edge in Christchurch. Thanks to a quick re-route via Fiji, Air New Zealand got me to the ship just in time to sail from that beautiful port city.
This was my first time staying in an Infinite Veranda stateroom and I loved it. Instead of a traditional balcony, the veranda is integrated into the room, almost like a sunroom, with a floor-to-ceiling glass window that opens from the waist up. Being able to take in the sea air from bed made every moment feel special, no matter the weather.
The staterooms were beautifully designed - contemporary, spacious, and fitted with thoughtful touches like multiple USB outlets. Dining was a highlight, with four main restaurants included for a la carte dining, each offering a different theme. If you love a particular dish, you can even order it across venues. The animated dining experience at Le Petit Chef was a delight, but Raw on 5 was my personal favourite, serving some of the best sushi and seafood I’ve ever had at sea (both carry a small surcharge).
Beyond dining, there was always something to enjoy - from quiet corners to lively entertainment. The atrium pulsed with energy each evening, especially around the Martini Bar, where the bartenders’ flair performances turned every drink into a show. The ship’s Magic Carpet, a cantilevered platform that glides up and down the side of the vessel, became another favourite spot for a coffee or a cocktail while soaking in the scenery.
Our sailing took us from Christchurch back to Sydney, calling at Dunedin which was charming, with welcoming locals and plenty to explore ashore. But the real standout was cruising through New Zealand’s breathtaking fjords, watching the sun break through the clouds as we glided past towering cliffs - all from the comfort of my Infinite Veranda.
Russell’s Roundup: A Gourmet Playground at Sea
For me, Celebrity Edge was all about the food, drink and atmosphere - a floating gourmet playground unlike any other.
The Martini Bar at the Grand Plaza quickly became my nightly ritual. The energy, the music, and the mixologists’ incredible skills made every evening feel like a celebration. For something quieter with a view, I’d retreat to the Magic Carpet, sipping cocktails as it hovered over the waves with panoramic ocean backdrops.
Dining on Edge felt like a culinary world tour. Le Petit Chef delivered a playful 4D animated dining experience where the story unfolded right on the table. Murano brought a taste of French indulgence, complete with caviar, truffle and tableside flambé. Fine Cut Steakhouse was a haven for prime meat lovers, while Raw on 5 became a repeat stop for its sushi and seafood. For something more theatrical, Eden Restaurant offered nature-inspired cuisine in a venue as stunning as the dishes themselves.
The variety didn’t end there. Cyprus Restaurant paid homage to Celebrity’s Greek heritage with rustic coastal flavours, while Tuscan Restaurant served Italian favourites with house-made pasta and bold Tuscan flair. Between meals, I explored lounges from the vibrant Rooftop Garden Grill to the elegant Retreat Lounge, a suite guest sanctuary.
For me, the destinations were a bonus - because aboard Celebrity Edge, the food, drink and atmosphere were as much the destination as any port.
